Cosmos Continue To Frustrate Chiefs

Absa Premiership

Full Time: Jomo Cosmos 0-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 20 October 2015

Venue: Olen Park

Jomo Cosmos and Kaizer Chiefs played to an entertaining 0-0 draw in an Absa Premiership match at Olen Park on Tuesday night.

The first real chance on goal fell to Chiefs in the 10th minute when Erick Mathoho headed over the crossbar from a couple yards out after meeting a left-sided free-kick from Bernard Parker.

In the 14th minute Cosmos should have taken the lead when Pilot Mthembu met an inch perfect corner-kick from Pentjie Zulu, but the central defender headed wide from under the Chiefs crossbar.

A minute later a goalmouth scramble inside the Cosmos box saw Reneilwe Letsholonyane firing narrowly over the crossbar from 16-yards out.

On the half hour mark Cosmos came close to opening the scoring when Charlton Mashumba broke through on goal and rounded the keeper, but fired his shot into the side netting from an acute angle on the right.

Two minutes before the break Edward Manqele thought he had given Chiefs the lead when he found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed because he was in an off-side position.

The half ended 0-0.

Chiefs came out firing at the start of the second half with Edward Manqele breaking through on goal four minutes after the restart, but he was superbly denied by goalkeeper Sherwin Naicker.

In the 62nd minute Mashumba was afforded too much space and let rip with a thunderous long range effort, but saw his shot brilliantly stopped by Pieterse.

Ten minutes later substitute Linda Mtambo’s cross from the left was met by Mashumba, but he headed inches over the Chiefs crossbar from ten-yards out.

Mashumba was in the thick of the action again in the 78th minute when he turned defender Ivan Bukenya on his way to goal, but saw his close range effort magnificently saved by Pieterse.

Chiefs nearly stole victory in the dying seconds of the match when substitute Siphelele Mthembu struck the crossbar with an effort in the 93rd minute and then Willard Katande also hit the woodwork in the 94th minute.

Nonetheless, the match ended 0-0 and the spoils were shared.
