Arrows Edge Past 10-Man Downs

Absa Premiership

Result: Golden Arrows 2-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Date: 12 September 2015

Venue: Chatsworth Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns went into the halftime break trailing Golden Arrows 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium.

Arrows were presented with a chance to open the scoring in the seventh minute, when Rodney Ramagalela was brought down by Denis Onyango and Mabhuti Khenzyea stepped up to convert from 12-yards out.

Sundowns new signing Bangaly Soumahoro nearly marked his debut with an own-goal but Onyango was on hand to keep out the defender's wayward header.

Philani Zikalala was then called upon in the ninth minute, as he pulled off a stunning reflex save to keep out Khama Billiat's header from six-yards out.

Sundowns were then dealt a blow in the 17th minute when Bongani Zungu was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card in the space of two minutes.

Denis Onyango had to be at his best in the 30th minute, as he did well to keep out Gladwin Shitolo's stinging effort from the edge of the area, after some good work by Deon Hotto.

Sundowns had Onyango to thank for keeping the score at 1-0 as they went into the break, after he pulled off another fine save to deny Shitolo from 25-yards out.

Sundowns leveled matters shortly after the break, when substitute Themba Zwane turned home Khama Billiat's low cross at the far post.

Substitute Ryan Chapman almost made an immediate impact in the 62nd minute but his left-footed effort from the edge of the area sailed inches over the crossbar.

However, Chapman was not to be denied in the 70th minute, as the forward latched onto a long ball, before firing a low effort into the far corner.

Fiston Abdul Razak nearly drew Sundowns level in the 78th minute but the Sundowns forward managed to head over the crossbar from six-yards out.

Pitso Mosimane's pushed for the equaliser in the remaining stages, but were let down by some poor finishing by Razak, who squandered another headed chance in the 89th minute.

Arrows saw out the rest of the second half to clinch the three points and hand Sundowns their second successive league defeat.

Here's how they lined up:

Golden Arrows:  Zikalala, Mngwengwe, Mathiane, Sikhakhane, S.Dube, Shitolo, N.Cele, Fikizolo, Hotto, Khenyeza, Ramagalela

Mamelodi Sundowns: Onyango, Zwane, Langerman, Bangaly, Mphahlele, Dolly, Modise, Zungu, Kekana, Malajila, Billiat
