Absa Premiership
Full Time: Free State Stars 0-0 Chippa United
Date: 27 May 2017
Venue: Goble Park Stadium
Both Free State Stars and Chippa United managed to avoid relegation as they played to a 0-0 draw in their last Absa Premiership game of the season at Goble Park Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides struggled to keep hold of the ball early on as they squandered possession with some poor passing, especially in the final third.
Consequently, the first decent effort on goal only came in the 17th minute courtesy of a well-taken free-kick from Nhlanhla Vilakazi, but the Chippa goalkeeper made a good save to deny him.
A minute later Free State had another shot on goal when Thokozani Sekotlong unleashed a thunderbolt from distance, but Daniel Akpeyi made a good save to keep the scores level.
On the half hour mark Thokozani Sekotlong tried his luck from long range once more, but he saw his effort sail narrowly wide of the target.
A minute before the break Nhlanhla Vilakazi should have given Free State the lead when he met a corner-kick from Thokozani Sekotlong, but he headed inches over the crossbar.
The half ended 0-0.
The second half started slowly with the first real attempt on goal coming in the 69th minute when Paulos Masehe met a cross from Sinethemba Jantjie, but he headed over the Chippa goal.
The next effort on goal only came four minutes from time when Mpho Mvelase drove forward for Chippa, but saw his stinging shot from the edge of the box well-saved by Thela Ngobeni as the game ended 0-0.
