Bance, Manzini Guide Chippa Past Polokwane

Absa Premiership

Result: Chippa United 2-1 Polokwane City

Date: 25 September 2015

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

Goals from  Lerato Manzini and Aristide Bance handed Chippa United a 2-1 win over Polokwane City at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.

Chippa nearly broke the deadlock in the first minute but George Chigova came rushing off his line to deny Bance.

The visitors created an opening of their own in the sixth minute when Baptiste Faye rose highest to meet a cross from the right, however his header sailed inches over the crossbar.

Polokwane were then reduced to 10 men after 30 minutes when Gert Barends was shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Tiyani.

Chippa made their numerical advantage count just before the break when Lerato Manzini fired home from the edge of the area, after Mark Mayambela's effort had been saved.

The home side then doubled their advantage shortly after the break when Manzini turned to provider to play in Bance, who calmly slotted past Chigova into the bottom corner for his first goal for Chippa.

Chippa debutant, Daniel Akpeyi, proved his worth in the 61st minute, as the Nigerian goalkeeper pulled off a fine save to deny Linda Shiba from 12-yards out.

Polokwane should have reduced the deficit in the 73rd but Tlolane dragged his effort wide of the mark, after a well-worked move involving Cole Alexander and Maluleke.

Akpeyi was called upon once again in the 76th minute as he denied Shiba from point-blank range, after a goal-mouth scramble in the box.

The home side squandered a chance to grab a third goal in the 87th minute when Mayambela played a neat one-two with Bance, before firing horribly wide with only Chigova to beat.

Polokwane created most of the openings in the second half, despite being a man down and they pulled a goal back in stoppage time through a close range header from Thobani Mncwango.

However, that goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation, as the Chilli Boys held on for the three points.

The win sees Chippa move up to eighth in the Absa Premiership standings, while Polokwane drop to 13th spot.

Here's how they lined up:

Chippa United: Akpeyi, Okwuosa, Thopola, Maleasenya, Chipeta, Sangweni, Bance, Mthiyane, Mayambela,Manzine, Sali
