Absa Premiership
Result: Bidvest Wits 0-1 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 06 March 2015
Venue: Bidvest Stadium
Lerato Lamola scored from the penalty spot to hand Bloemfontein Celtic a 1-0 win over Bidvest Wits on Friday night.
Gavin Hunt's men were in control from the onset and nearly opened the scoring in the 16th minute but Henrico Botes's goal-bound header was cleared off the line.
Papy Faty should have opened the scoring in the 27th minute, the midfielder was picked out by Botes but skewed his effort wide of the mark from 12-yards out.
Sibusiso Vilakazi should have had his second goal in as many games just before the halftime break, but the midfielder steered his header wide of the mark from six-yards out.
Celtic struggled to create any openings in the first half, as the likes of Lerato Lamola and Thapelo Morena were completely shut down by the Wits defence.
After a cagey opening 20 minutes in the second half, the home side nearly broke the deadlock, as Vilakazi's snap shot sailed inches wide of the upright.
Celtic eventually broke the deadlock in the 80th minute courtesy of a cheeky penalty from Lamola, after Siyabonga Nhlapo had committed a foul in the area, for which he was shown a second yellow card.
Wits pushed for the equaliser late on and went close in stoppage time, as substitute Calvin Kadi fired a low effort just wide of the upright.
Clinton Larsen's men survived a late surge from the home side and claimed an impressive away victory, while Wits failed to close the gap between themselves and Kaizer Chiefs.
