Ajax Go Top After Impressive Win Over Wits

Absa Premiership

Result: Ajax Cape Town 3-1 Bidvest Wits

Date: 26 August 2014

Venue: Athlone Stadium

Ajax Cape Town moved to the top of the league standings with an impressive 3-1 win over Bidvest Wits in a Absa Premiership clash at the Athlone Stadium.

The win also sees Roger de Sa's men maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

The first half proved to be a lively affair, with both sides showing intent on winning the game.

Keagan Dolly came close in the 20th minute with an effort that went over the bar from close range, after Travis Graham's shot had been blocked.

Despite it being a lively encounter, the opening 45 minutes saw no goals as both sides went into the halftime break.

Jackson Mabokgwane came to Wits' rescue midway through the second half, as he pulled off a fine save to deny Musa Lebusa's header.

It was the hosts who took the lead in the 75th minute, as Nathan Paulse headed home from close range for his first of the season.

Wits managed to level matters five minutes later, as Sthembiso Ngcobo slotted home for his third of the campaign.

However, Ajax restored their lead as Paulse converted from the penalty spot, after 'Tyson' Hlatshwayo was adjudged to have handle the ball in the area.

Dolly popped up in the closing stages of the game to add a third for the Urban Warriors, beating the off-side trap, and finishing perfectly past a helpless Mabokgwane, to send them top of Absa Premiership table.

Here's how they lined up:

Ajax Cape Town: Jaakkola, Allie, Coetzee, Mobara, Lebusa, Graham, Morris, Scott, Paulse, Nkoana, Dolly

Bidvest Wits: Mabokgwane, Kwakman, Hlatshwayo, Nergadze, Shongwe, Losper, Vilakazi, Katongo, Kebede, Bhasera, Ntshangase
