The 2018/19 Absa Premiership season got underway on Saturday with a mouth-watering clash between the Brazilians and the Amakhosi.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele open the scoring for Chiefs before Ricardo Nascimento equalised from the penalty spot for Sundowns as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.
Speaking after the match, Billiat was quick to thank the supporters and urged the Amakhosi fans to forget about the past three season which saw the club pick-up no major silverware.
“I want to thank everyone who came in numbers to support the team. I know it has been tough for the past three years, but it is water under the bridge. We are ready to start the league,” said Billiat told SuperSport..
“It is a 1-1 result and it was a tough match. Mamelodi Sundowns is a good team. We have done a lot of things that we wanted to do today against Sundowns and there is still room for improvements.
“It is really important to start on a high to take us through the league season.”
Billiat, though, admits that Chiefs were not at their best in front of goal and that is something that will have to improve if they are to challenge for the league title this season.
“We did not create as many chances as we wanted to, but there were moments that we could have taken our chances,” added the Amakhosi attacking midfielder.
“But it is a learning curve. We learn every day and we think positively, we are not too hard on ourselves. We take one game as it comes.”
