Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the Mamelodi Sundowns players following their 1-0 win over AmaZulu on 24 February 2015.
Dennis Onyango: 6
Onyango didn’t have much to do in goal as AmaZulu struggled to create many decent goal scoring chances. He did do well to collect numerous crosses and long throw-ins into the box.
Siyanda Zwane: 6
Was a quiet night for Zwane in his right-back position. He did defend well, but he didn’t offer much in attack down the flank.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele: 6
Was solid in the centre of defence. He had to be alert early on in the game when AmaZulu were applying a lot of pressure, but he defended well. He also defended well at the end of the game when AmaZulu threw numbers forward.
Alje Schut: 6
He was a towering figure in the heart of the Sundowns defence. He made some very good clearances from crosses, free-kicks and long throw-ins into the box. He led by example with his worth ethic.
Mzikayise Mashaba: 7
Mashaba was good in his left-back role. He defended well, but more importantly he got forward in attack down the flank. He delivered some good crosses into the box and also had a shot on goal that went just over the target.
Khama Billiat: 6
Billiat was a constant threat in attack, but mostly through the middle of the park and not on the flank. He got into some really good areas, but his shooting was not at its best and he saw numerous shots go off target.
Asavela Mbekile: 6
Was a quiet night in the midfield for Mbekile. He didn’t do anything wrong, but he did nothing to bring the game to life either. Was substituted in the 53rd minute.
Bongani Zungu: 7
Was solid in his midfield role, and had the positive impact we have become accustomed to. He didn’t do much wrong and kept the game flowing and balanced. He was nominated as the Absa Premiership ‘man of the match’.
Kudakwashe Mahachi: 7
Was a threat in attack, both down the flank and through the centre of the park. He did have a shot on goal that struck the left-hand post in the first half. Was substituted in the 79th minute for Nthethe as Pitso Mosimane shut up shop at the back.
Teko Modise: 7
Modise was his usual creative self in the attacking midfield role. He created numerous chances for teammates and had a couple of shots on goal as well, but his shooting lacked direction. He also struck the post in the second half with a 14-yard volley.
Cuthbert Malajila: 7
Was a quiet first half in attack for Malajila. He didn’t get many chances in front of goal, but his work rate was high. The second half was a different story and he opened the scoring for Sundowns in the 54th minute. Was substituted in the 90th minute.
Anthony Laffor: 6
Came on in the 53rd minute and was quiet in attack. He did get forward a couple of times, but he was slow on the ball.
Thabo Nthethe: N/A
Came on in the 79th minute and was not on long enough to make an impact.
Themba Zwane: N/A
Came on in the 90th minute and was not on long enough to make an impact.
