Five-Star Sundowns Thrash SuperSport

Absa Premiership

Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 5-0 SuperSport United

Date: 13 April 2017

Venue: Loftus Versveld Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns ended their five-game unbeaten streak with a resounding 5-0 victory against SuperSport United on Thursday evening.

The encounter got off to a slow start with neither side willing to allow another too much space on the ball.

Sundowns should've taken the lead with the first opportunity of the game in the fourth minute, when Hlompho Kekana's grasscutter found Percy Tau in some space with only the goalkeeper to beat, but the forward kicked his effort straight at Reyaad Pieterse.

Tau missed another one-on-one a minute later after some great interplay between Themba Zwane, Khama Billiat allowed him in on goal, but the Bafana Bafana international blazed his effort over the bar.

Sundowns got into their rhythym and were rewarded for their attacking efforts in the sixth minute when Tau's attempted cross deflected off defender Clayton Daniels to give the home side the lead.

SuperSport offered little in response to Masandawna's dominance and were lucky to have not have gone another goal down in the 14th minute, when Kekana's header crashed into the crossbar with Pieterse well-beaten.

Pitso Mosimane's side doubled their advantage in the 18th minute when Zwane finished from close range.

Sundowns added a third in the 26th minute as Billiat's back pass found Mzikayise Mashaba on-the-run and the defender blasted his effort past the goalkeeper.

SuperSport didn't have an effort on target in the first-half, which was indicative of Sundowns' dominance as Billiat added a fourth in the 44th minute with a fine finish.

Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango had his first bit of action just after the half-time break as he did well to stop Micheal Boxall's header from going in.

Billiat grabbed his brace in the 62nd minute when his first-time finish from Tebogo Langerman's cut-back evaded Pieterse to give his side a 5-0 lead.

Sundowns played the remaining minutes of the encounter without much threat from their arch-rivals as they ran out 5-0 victors to put an end to their five-game consecutive winless streak.

Here's how they lined up:

Sundowns: 36. Onyango, 16. Nascimento, 32. Madisha, 27. Morena, 4. Langerman, 15. Mohomi, 8. Kekana, 19. Mashaba, 18. Zwane, 33. Billiat, 22. Tau.

SuperSport: 1. Pieterse, 5. Boxall, 4. Daniels, 29. Gould, 14. Bhasera, 8. Furman, 6. Letsholonyane, 13. Phala, 7. Masango, 11. Brockie, 10. Nkhatha.
