Tinkler Lost For Words

Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler was lost for words following his side’s shock 2-0 loss to Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers dominated proceedings throughout the match, but poor finishing and the inability to defend on the counter-attack saw them suffer their fourth loss of the league season.

Had it not have been for Pirate’s cup form which has seen them into the final of this season’s CAF Confederations Cup and the semifinal of the Telkom Knockout, Tinkler could have been shown the exit door by now.

His team currently sits only two places above the danger zone in 13th place with five points from seven league matches.

Speaking after his side’s fourth loss of the league season on Wednesday night, Tinkler was extremely dejected and lost for words.

“I don’t even know where to start,” said Tinkler.

“We started brightly. I felt in the first half we should have been at least 4-0 up.

“I just encouraged the players at half time to continue doing what we were doing when going forward and that we needed to be extremely cautious defensively on the counter-attack.

“In the second half, again we started well and in the first two minutes we had another great chance, the fifth opportunity we had and then we got caught on the counter and they got the 1-0 lead.

“After that we started throwing numbers forward as went looking for the equaliser and chances were created, it just didn’t want to go in the back of the net, and then they got the second.

“I don’t know what to say, I am disappointed obviously.”
