Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt was delighted with his side’s performance following their slender 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership match on Wednesday night.
James Keene scored the only goal of the game in the opening half, in a result that sees the Students up to 48 points on the league table, only four points behind first placed Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking after the win over Pirates, Hunt praised his team’s gutsy performance which saw them battle hard for the win.
“It was a fantastic performance,” said Hunt.
“I thought in the first half, before we scored we had three great chances and then they ran down and hit the post, and I thought ‘here we go’.
“In the second half I said let’s drop right off and we’ll play in our half, which we did and they only really had one chance in the second half.
“What we lack in ability we make up in heart.
“I commend my team – the shape was good and the balance was good playing against a very good side.
“Good teams will be good without the ball and that is what we are.
“We do what we can with what we have and we battle on.
“It was a fantastic performance – it was great grit and determination.”
