As the South African football family still remain in shock over the passing of “Shakes” Kungwane, Soccer Laduma dug into its archives and found a tribute in the form of a poem written to the legendary Shakes.
In issue number 25 of Soccer Laduma, 17th July 1997, Godfrey Malibe a Soccer Laduma reader wrote:
“The minister of entertainment.
You make soccer more entertaining than any other sport in the world
You make it more easy than it is
When you apply the “tsamaya” style fans go crazy
Opponents turn and jump to show you their jersey numbers
I remember how I nearly lost my loving friend who was in a wheelchair
We watched you in action
You started what you were known for
He was hooked on you and lost his psyche and fell down
How dangerous are you!
You even dribble cameramen trying to capture your pictures
You’re a real marvel to watch.”
