We’ve seen new signings, talented youngsters and experienced campaigners all hit with bad luck on the injury front, so many that you could actually make a starting XI of them.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been one of the worst hit sides on the injury front given their heavy schedule and crazy 2016, with several of their players being forced to sit on the sidelines as Pitso Mosimane tried to make the best of what he had.
Denis Onyango, who won several personal honours for his 2016 efforts, has played just eight league games this time around, while Khama Billiat – the reigning Player of the Year in South Africa – has been missing for nine of Sundowns’ 19 games.
Anele Ngcongca, a player signed to help the side in their recovery from 2016, has struggled for fitness and at this stage has made just five league appearances.
Another club who have had a full medical room as they dealt with injuries is Sundowns’ Tshwane rivals, SuperSport United.
SuperSport landed Cole Alexander and Tefu Mashamaite at the start of the season as Stuart Baxter looked to make a title push in 2016/17, and while they are still in the running for the trophy, Alexander and Mashamaite have played just nine league games between them.
Meanwhile, Bradley Grobler, who started the season strongly, had to undergo an operation and has missed all but five of their matches.
We’ve also seen players like Phakamani Mahlambi of Bidvest Wits, Cape Town City’s Robyn Johannes, Kaizer Chiefs striker, Camaldine Abraw, Thabo Rakhale of Orlando Pirates and Golden Arrows’ Lehlohonolo Noyane sit out for lengthy spells. Abraw hasn't played at all this season.
As we enter into the last third of the season it seems that several of the aforementioned players will add to their appearance numbers before the campaign ends, although they will be eager to try and enjoy more time on the field in 2017/18.
Which player have you missed the most in your team through injury?
