Dolly, Lorch Lead The Dstv Compact Cup’s 5 Deadly Duos

It is the first of its kind in South Africa where for two consecutive weekends, fans from different teams will put their rivalry aside as their various players team up for the unique tournament.

While it does happen in the national team, the thought of Chiefs and Pirates players turning out for the same team to run riot is sure to exhilarate fans with some eye-catching duos set to emerge from the competition.

Keagan Dolly & Thembinkosi Lorch – Warriors

They are the standout players for their respective teams and will surely be the headline fixtures for Warriors FC. Dolly, back to his mesmerizing best for Chiefs this season, following his move from Montpellier in France, while Lorch has overcome his injury woes and is slowly getting back into the swing of things at Orlando Pirates this season.

The thought of two of the deadliest playmakers in the league teaming is sure to strike fear into the hearts of any defender.

Sipho Mbule & Gaston Sirino – Dinaledi

The fact that the two players don the number 10 jersey for their respective teams tell you all you need to know about this deadly partnership that hails from Tshwane.

Mbule, one of the most sought after players in the current transfer window and heavily tipped by the Siya crew to be closing in on a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, could give fans a preview of what is to come when he teams up with Sirino.

While it hasn’t been the best of seasons for Sirino in a Sundowns jersey, the Uruguayan remains one of the country’s best players who can taunt any defence on his day. Perhaps turning out for Dinaledi FC could be the catalyst for a turnaround in the 30-year-old’s season.

Evidence Makgopa & Ashley Du Preez – Coastal United

In Du Preez and Makgopa, Coastal United boast two of the most promising young forwards in the country right now.

Du Preez has polished up his finishing, something that largely let him down last season, and is fast turning out to be a fine striker with his turn of pace a nightmare for most defenders.

Makgopa, who made his debut in the DStv Premiership as a teenager has grown in leaps and bounds over the years. He continues to be one of the standout players for Baroka FC with his height and aerial ability. if used correctly, could be one of the most lethal weapons in Coastal United’s arsenal.

Daylon Claasen & Tebogo Potsane – Amabutho

These are players who are responsible for making both Royal AM and Maritzburg United tick.

Claasen has matured in his midfield role at the Team of Choice and is vital in both attack and defence for his side. The midfielder’s versatility has seen him remain one of Maritzburg’s key players this season.

Perhaps he hasn’t gotten the recognition he deserves but anyone who watches Potsane’s game will speak of his importance for coach John Maduka’s side. If Amabutho stand any chance of winning the competition they will be hoping both Potsane and Claasen bring their a-game.

Itumeleng Khune & Kwame Peprah – Warriors

This is an unlikely combo which could work to great effect for Warriors FC.

Still loved and adored by fans, Khune has been selected as the number one for Warriors. Although he has seen very little in terms of game-time this season, Khune has been gifted a chance to show why he is regarded as Mzansi’s finest. His distribution could be telling, especially with the pace of Peprah upfront.

There may have been doubts about him at the start of the season, but Kwame Peprah has finally shown why he could be a solution to Pirates’ goalscoring problems. The Ghanaian has hit a rich vein before the festive break and will be hoping to continue that, especially benefitting from the quality service provided by both Lorch and Dolly, while Khune undoubtedly has the ability to pick out his runs.
