The 2014 U19 edition of the Regional Women’s league championships was launched on Thursday at SAFA House.
In attendance at the launch were, among others SAFA CEO, Dennis Mumble, and a representative from sponsors Grand Parade Investment and its subsidiary company, Burger King.
It has been revealed that this year’s championships will be hosted by the SAFA Vhembe region in Thohoyandou, Limpopo and will be taking place from 18-24 August.
Each of the provincial sides will have to submit a list of 18 players, all of which must produce their respective South African ID cards or a valid passport. Only players born on or after 1 January 1996 and playing in the SAFA Regional Women’s League and lower leagues are allowed to participate in the championships.
Speaking at the media launch, Mumble heaped praise on the annual U19 Women championships and what the tournament set out to achieve.
“This is the platform which produced most of the stars now doing duty in the Banyana Banyana squad and we hope the upcoming tourney will produce yet other future stars. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our proud sponsors GPI and its subsidiary company Burger King. Without them most of such activities would not be realised,” he said.
GPI and Burger King are also sponsors of the national U17 and men’s national championships.
