Who Will Rule Soweto Come Saturday?

The Soweto Derby takes to the stage this weekend. Orlando Pirates host rivals Kaizer Chiefs in what is expected to be the most exciting match between the two sides considering the current form of the teams. The Buccaneers are one point above their opponents and will be hoping to close the four-point gap at the top of the table. While Amakhosi will be also looking to move up into the second spot.

Manchester City will take on Chelsea in an EPL encounter on Sunday, March 4. Antonio Conte’s men are currently placed in the fifth position on the log standings, while leaders, the Citizens will be gunning to extend their lead.

On Sunday, Barcelona host Atletico Madrid in a LaLiga match. The top of the table clash will see Atletico eager to close the five-point gap, however, it will not be that easy playing the Catalans on their home turf.

Match of the Week

Orlando Pirates v Kaizer Chiefs (Premier Soccer League)

Match 2  Soccer 6  Pool 03 March S6 V3 P1

League Rankings: Pirates 2nd & Chiefs 3rd

Useful facts: The beautiful FNB Calabash will be divided into two when the Soweto giants collide on Saturday afternoon. Bucs will be the home side in what promises to be a thrilling encounter, as the two sides continue to challenge for the league title. The Glamour Boys failed to secure maximum points against Bloemfontein Celtic last Saturday, settling for a 1-1 draw. Although the Buccaneers got off to a slow start against Chippa United, they pulled a mother of all comebacks when they stunned the Chilli Boys 4-2 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last Sunday. Only one point separates the PSL’s biggest archrivals, and it’s three points or nothing on Saturday as the league race gets tougher and tougher. The last time the Soweto giants locked horns at the very same venue, they shared the spoils, drawing 0-0.

Manchester City v Chelsea (English Premier League)

Match 6 Soccer 6 Pool 04 March V2 P1

League Rankings: Man City 1st & Chelsea 5th

Useful facts: Pep Guardiola won his first English football trophy when his side thrashed Arsenal 3-0 in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday. Now the high-flying Citizens turn their attention back to the league as they welcome defending champions, Chelsea. Antonio Conte’s side will look to bounce back to winning ways as they are starting from a defeat to second-placed Manchester United. The battle for fourth place is on for the Blues, as the loss to the Red Devils saw them drop to fifth place, below Tottenham Hotspur. The last time the two sides clashed, the hosts edged Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley in September 2017.

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (Spanish LaLiga)

Match 2 Soccer 6 Pool 04 March V3 P1

League Rankings: Barcelona 1st & Atletico 2nd

Useful facts: Atletico travel to Barcelona for what could be a defining moment for the two Spanish giants. With archrivals Real Madrid out of the title race, the Red-and-Whites have taken it upon themselves to be Barca’s competitor and possibly prevent them from clinching the title. However, the Catalan giants still remain the only unbeaten team across Europe’s top five leagues. They are seven points adrift of Diego Simone’s side and will look to use their impressive form to maintain their unbeaten league run. The last time these two Spanish giants collided, a 1-1 draw was the outcome.

It's a "sold out" affair and i guess Botha will be there, amongst Pirates supporters. I wish the soceer enthusiast could arrive early and those knocking off at 14h00 at work must just behave. We can't have a delayed kick-off just for a few. People from as far as KZN arrive early but those from Pretoria deliberately arrive late to spoil the party.
