Match of the Week

Cape Town City v Ajax Cape Town (Premier Soccer League)

Match 1  Soccer 6  Pool  20 January S6 V1 P2

League Rankings: City 3rd & Ajax 16th

Useful facts: Struggling Ajax Cape Town were able to steal a win last Friday when they took advantage of Platinum Stars who are also having a tough season. The Urban Warriors came back from 1-0 down to claim a 3-1 victory at the Cape Town Stadium. The win and presence of newly acquired striker, Tendai Ndoro, who netted on debut, was a much-needed confidence booster for Muhsin Ertugral’s side, who will look to register another when they play the Citizens this Saturday. However, Benni McCarthy’s charges, who worked hard to regain their form in recent games, will look to maintain the unbeaten form against Ertugral’s side since 2016. The Blue and Gold have claimed three wins in their last four meetings with the Urban Warriors.

Arsenal v Crystal Palace (English Premier League)

Match 1 Soccer 6 Pool 20 January S6 V2 P1

League Rankings: Arsenal 6th & Crystal Palace12th

Useful facts: Fresh from a defeat, Gunners will look to improve their inconsistent run. Arsene Wenger’s side has only registered one win in their last five league games. They face a confident Crystal Palace who were able to seal a 1-0 win against Burnley last weekend. The Eagles will also look to improve their form against the Gunners who have defeated them seven times in their last nine meetings. The last time the two sides met, Wenger’s men came out victorious with a scoreline of 3-2 last month.

Burnley v Manchester United (English Premier League)

Match 2 Soccer 6 Pool 20 January S6 V2 P1

League Rankings: Burnley 7th & Man United 2nd

Useful facts: With Liverpool and Chelsea having managed to catch the Red Devils and level on points, Jose Mourinho’s side, who started the season on a high, will look to stretch their winning streak when they visit seventh-placed Burnley. They came off a comfortable win over Stoke City on Monday evening. Twelve points adrift of the log-leaders, the Red Devils will have to go on a consistent run of wins if they are to shorten the gap with Manchester City. The Clarets have not beaten United in five seasons. However, they were able to hold the second-placed side to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in December 2017.

Bamuza Sono: Man United
