Can Pirates Outsmart The Clever Boys?

The 2018/19 football season is in full swing with supporters glued to their screens and flocking to the stadiums around the world.

On Wednesday, August 15, the ABSA Premiership will be in action as Orlando Pirates host Bidvest Wits. Bucs will be aiming for maximum points, though are facing a Clever Boys side that is yet to drop points.

In Spain, the UEFA Super Cup final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be the main attraction.

Los Blancos are defending champions and will be hoping to retain their title. However, Atletico with a few new faces in their squad will be looking to impress their manager Diego Simeone before the league officially begins.

Orlando Pirates v Bidvest Wits (Premier Soccer League)

Match 1 Soccer 6 Pool 15 Aug S6 V1 P1

League rankings: Pirates 5th & Wits 1st

Useful facts: The Buccaneers turn their focus back to the Absa Premiership following last weekend’s disappointing loss to SuperSport United in the MTN8 quarterfinals at Orlando Stadium. The Soweto giants put on a good performance against Matsatsantsa a Pitori, only being let down by poor finishing. The two clubs proceeded to extra-time where none of them was able to rise to the occasion, leading to a tense penalty shootout that Milutin Sredojevic’s side lost 4-3. Micho will hope his impressive squad will redeem themselves at the expense of log leaders, the Clever Boys, who have enjoyed a good start to the Absa Premiership campaign, having won both their matches to date. The Soweto giants thrashed Wits 4-0 in their previous meeting last season.
