Zambians Await Bucs On New Striker, A Police Officer
Zambian Club Waiting On Orlando Pirates Regarding Their Newly Signed Striker
Zambian club, Nkwazi FC, has confirmed that it is waiting for official confirmation from South Africa regarding Justin Shonga who has joined Orlando Pirates.
Shonga has joined Pirates, as confirmed by the Soweto giants today. While Nkwazi have confirmed knowing about the Zambian striker’s whereabouts, the club say they are not yet in a position to confirm that he now belongs elsewhere.
The Lusaka-based club that is sponsored by the Zambia Police Service say it is waiting for confirmation from Pirates regarding Shonga signing with them.
Zambia Police Director of Sport, Adrian Kashala, told the Siya crew that his office is not yet in a position to confirm the player’s departure.
“He (Shonga) went for assessment. Orlando Pirates have to get back to us informing us that they have progressed with the player and that the player is staying there. But what we are getting, unfortunately, are the reports that he has joined Orlando Pirates. We have sealed the deal with Orlando Pirates as a club. But we haven’t been able to publish any communication because we haven’t yet gotten confirmation from our colleagues on the other side. Until then, we will not be able to confirm whether we have sealed the deal for the boy at Orlando Pirates or not. So, that is where we are right now. As long as they can give us an official position, we are not going to be in a position to make official confirmation because we may jeopardise the process. We are aware that everything else is going on smoothly with Orlando Pirates. We are sure that at the end of the day the deal will be sealed. But we need to confirm with our colleagues there,” Kashala.
Asked what their wait could about, Kashala explained that there are processes that the player needs to follow, including leaving his current job in Zambian government, where he is a police officer.
“It’s not about the money, it’s about the satisfaction of both parties. It’s also about the interests of the player. Money will come later. If Orlando Pirates are done with the assessment and the player is okay, he can join them. We don’t have a problem with that. We would have to inform his employers and start the official process because that one (Shonga) is a public worker as well. He works for the government. He will have to do things professionally in an official way. His employer is aware that he is out of the country on another assignment. He is a police officer. We need official confirmation from there,” explained Kashala.
