Chiefs To Opt Against Yeye?
What could have been a potential return for Reneilwe Letsholonyane to Kaizer Chiefs has hit a snag, Siya sources have confirmed.
And the stumbling block appears to be the anticipated backlash from Amakhosi supporters!
According to Siya sources, a faction of the Amakhosi faithful has expressed their displeasure at hearing the news that veteran Letsholonyane, at 36, could be re-joining the club.
The source explained that the supporters voiced their opinions to the club and the Soweto giants could likely opt against the idea of bringing him back on board.
The Siya crew first revealed last week that the current SuperSport United midfielder had been earmarked as one of the club’s January transfer window signings and with a view of giving him a separate role in the team once he retires.
‘Yeye’, as Letsholonyane is affectionately known, is still contracted to Matsatsantsa until the end of the season, but is yet to be offered a new deal.
SuperSport have been mum on his future and sources had indicated that a move back to Chiefs, where he spent nearly a decade and won the Absa Premiership title twice, was extremely appealing to Letsholonyane.
He has struggled for game-time at the Tshwane outfit so far in this campaign as coach Kaitano Tembo carries out orders from management to give an opportunity to young players like Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule and Bidvest Wits loanee Phumlani Ntshangase.
Letsholonyane would have faced the same battle at Chiefs, according to an insider, where the midfield is packed with players aged 30 and under – George Maluleka, Hendrick Ekstein, Wiseman Meyiwa, Khotso Malope, Lebogang Manyama and Siphelele Ntshangase.
And in line with Chiefs’ approach of bringing in young players, signing Yeye would go against the strategy.
