Chippa United has booted out Luc Eymael, having succumbed to pressure from its stakeholders.
The Belgian mentor was appointed as Technical Advisor on Monday, with Siyabulela Gwambi taking over from coach Dan Malesela, who was fired a day earlier.
But the decision has backfired – with the EFF joining the chorus of many, including the club’s stakeholders, in condemning the appointment of Eymael.
This follows his racist rant late last year, which cost him his job at Tanzania outfit Yanga Africans after he labelled club supporters as “illiterate” and also called them “monkeys” – SAFA initially banned him from working in Mzansi.
Chippa announced Eymael as coach in December, but were forced to withdraw the appointment because of the backlash and the reaction from SAFA.
But the motherbody later cleared him, opening the door for Mpengesi to hire him again this week, and now the club owner has again been left with no choice but to reverse the decision.
Mpengesi has on numerous occasions attempted to defend bringing Eymael back to SA even risking his relationship with the club sponsors.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Chippa confirmed that the Belgian will no longer act as Chippa Technical Advisor.
"Chippa have decided not to continue with Eymael’s appointment, who will proceed to return to Belgium. It is clear that Eymael himself requires further time to clear his name. He has reassured the club that he will, in his own capacity take legal action concerning his rights, including the dissemination of the offending media clip through his own lawyers. We as a club maintain our stance against racism of any form and wish to make it clear that our intended appointment of Eymael would not have happened were the allegations against him have been validated in any form," read the statement.
