Will Orlando Pirates Make Keeper Changes? Daniels, Brighton Mhlongo and Co Waits
Orlando Pirates could be making changes to their goalkeeping department following the signing of Wayne Sandilands, with indications that the likes of Brighton Mhlongo may not be part of the squad for the new season.
The Soweto giants have struggled to find a regular number one goalkeeper during the 2016/17 campaign, constantly alternating between Mhlongo, Siyabonga Mphontshane and Jackson Mabokgwane between the sticks.
However, the Bucs announced the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper, Sandilands on Thursday, July 13, with indications that the club will be utilising the 33-year-old as their first choice between the sticks.
It was revealed on Soccer Laduma yesterday, July, 16 that Mhlongo is on the verge of joining Chippa United, with Siya sources indicating that a deal has been agreed to.
"Yes, it's all been agreed to, but there is no official announcement yet," the source told Soccer Laduma.
As it stands, Pirates have five goalkeepers currently on their books, namely, Mhlongo, Mpontshane, Mabokgwane, Emmanuel Daniel and Sandilands and indications are that the club could look to narrow down the list while bolstering the department at the same time.
Since acquiring the signing of the Nigerian shot-stopper, Pirates are yet to utilise the player. The Bucs currently have six foreigners on the club’s books, however, will only be able to register five of them in the new 2017/18 season and it remains to be seen whether the Soweto giants will hold on to Daniel’s services.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Pirates will make any announcements regarding their goalkeeping department in the coming weeks.
