Sifiso Hlanti hasn’t given up on his dream to play abroad, according to Siya sources, although there are no official suitors as yet.
With the Africa Cup of Nations around the corner, and Hlanti expected to make the national team squad for the tournament next month, doors should open for the player to be in the market if he performs.
His agent, Sizwe Ntshangase, did confirm in December last year that he had met with a representative from Russian Premier League side FC Lokomotiv Moscow prior to the start of the 2018/19 season to inquire about Hlanti.
But nothing concrete materialised – the defender having agreed to a two-year contract extension at Bidvest Wits, who would have risked losing him on a free this year if they didn’t eventually tie him down to a new deal.
The Big Three – Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were believed to be monitoring his situation as reported by the Siya crew at the time.
An unnamed Iranian club has been thrown into the mix as a potential destination for Hlanti, 29, but there is nothing official for now.
Hlanti is highly rated by Wits coach Gavin Hunt, who signed him from then National First Division side AmaZulu more than three years ago and turned him into a title winner – and a Bafana asset – a season later.
