Siya sources have indicated that Maritzburg United could be open to the sale of Lebohang Maboe to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Siya crew reported over the past weeks that Maboe has attracted interest from abroad, with KV Oostende and Qarabag showing interest in the player, while Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Sundowns monitor the player locally.
It was reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that sources have indicated that Maritzburg wanted around €500 000 (±R8 million) and are open to negotiating Maboe’s transfer, should European suitors come knocking at their door.
However, sources have since revealed that Maritzburg would, in fact, be open to selling Maboe locally, preferably to Sundowns.
Although the source stated that Maritzburg are keen on a player plus cash deal, it is believed that the KwaZulu-Natal side are interested in the services of Sundowns’ Yannick Zakri.
In essence, it is understood that Maritzburg want Zakri plus cash, should Sundowns intensify their pursuit of Maboe.
With the transfer window expected to be in full swing in the coming weeks, it remains to be see whether Masandawana will approach the Team of Choice for the 23-year-old.
