What Does Kaizer Chiefs’ New Signing Mean For George Lebese?
Kaizer Chiefs acquired the signing of another left winger, Philani Zulu, but what does this mean for George Lebese who has been struggling to cement his place in Head Coach Steve Komphela’s starting line-up?
The 28-year-old Mamelodi-born winger battled to maintain consistent form for the Soweto giants last season, often losing his place in the starting line-up to left-winger Edmore Chirambadare.
Lebese’s future at Naturena has been under speculation recently after the player took to his social media account by expressing what seemed to be his unhappiness with his game time.
“All I wanna do is play football (regardless) of what colour (t-shirt) I have on,” Lebese stated in a tweet posted on June, 07.
The club has since confirmed the signing of former Maritzburg United winger, Zulu, bolstering the left wing position in Komphela’s set-up.
Although it is yet to be seen how Komphela will utilise his options in his attacking department, indications are that with Zulu’s arrival, both Chirambadare and Lebese will face competition in maintaining their place in the Amakhosi starting line-up.
Lebese has one more year left on his existing contract at Naturena and following his recent social media post of his desire to play football, the rumour mill has been fueled by reports that the player will potentially make his way to Mamelodi Sundowns as well as a link with a move to Cape Town City.
It was reported recently on Soccer Laduma, that Sundowns’ transfer target Aubrey Ngoma’s current injury could open the door for the Brazilians to pounce on Lebese or Maritzburg United’s Deolin Mekoa.
Masandawana is yet to fill the void left by Keagan Dolly, following his departure to French Ligue 1 outfit, Montpellier in January this year and indications are that Ngoma was seen as the ideal replacement for the departed left winger.
However, with Ngoma believed to face months out on the sidelines as he looks to recovery after undergoing surgery this week, the Brazilians could focus their attention elsewhere.
Pitso Mosimane is believed to be an admirer of Lebese and it remains to be seen whether the head coach will reignite his interest in the 28-year-old and approach Amakhosi in the current transfer window.
