The latest news reaching the Siya crew is that two local coaches have emerged as strong candidates to possibly take over the vacant coaching role at one of the DStv Premiership clubs.
As reported by the Siya crew, following the dismissal of French coach Sebastien Migne as the head coach at Marumo Gallants at the weekend, the struggling Limpopo outfit is planning to hire a local coach in their next appointment.
While former TS Galaxy coach Owen da Gama is understood to have been a leading candidate for the job, Siya sources in the know have confirmed that Dan Malesela has emerged as a favourite for the role, along with Duncan Lechesa who has been part of the technical team of Free State Stars for some time.
“Marumo Gallants have made enquiries about the availability of coach Dan Malesela and about his costs,” confirmed the source.
“Talks are underway to establish the possibility of him taking the team to the CAF Confederation Cup since he did that with TS Galaxy,” the source added.
“They (Gallants) have also enquired about Duncan Lechesa and his costs. Duncan possesses a CAF A licence and might team up with Malesela. The problem is his contract with Free State Stars which will force Gallants to buy him out. The CAF A licence makes Duncan to qualify to sit on the bench in CAF matches, while the experience and the success of Dan will make them a great success. It is time for our local clubs to give our qualified and experienced coaches a chance instead of running outside the country. Pitso (Mosimane) is a typical example of what a local coach can do when given a chance,” the source concluded.
