TS Galaxy looks set to secure the services of a new goalkeeper coach to replace Tyron Damons, who left the club to join Gavin Hunt at Chippa United, as previously reported by the Siya crew.
According to Siya sources, Lucky Shiburi has been appointed as Galaxy’s new goalkeeper coach ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Shiburi is no stranger to working with Galaxy head coach Owen da Gama. Both were part of Shakes Mashaba’s Bafana Bafana technical team and worked closely for a few years during the veteran’s last stint as head coach of the senior national team.
Shiburi, who was on the books of Orlando Pirates during his playing and later worked in the club's development structures, was recently part of Bafana Bafana’s COSAFA Cup squad but was in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19. He did return to the team after completing his quarantine period.
According to information received by the Siya crew, Shiburi has been part of Galaxy’s technical for the past three weeks, working with the goalkeepers during pre-season as the Rockets prepare for the second season in the top-flight. Shiburi was part of Galaxy’s pre-season camp in Potchefstroom.
Galaxy, meanwhile, are expected to unveil their new signings for 2021/22 on Sunday. The club has already confirmed the signing of former Chippa striker Augustine Kwem.
