Gavin Hunt is pushing for a last-minute signing before the transfer window slams shut at midnight on Tuesday.
According to Siya sources, the Chippa United coach is racing against time to secure the services of a striker; Tashreeq Morris from Cape Town City.
The forward has only made a single appearance for the Citizens since the start of the current campaign, which came on the opening day when they faced AmaZulu away in the MTN8 quarterfinals.
City won 2-1 and Morris came off the bench in the second half.
Hunt was appointed at Chippa coach earlier last month in a shock move having left Kaizer Chiefs just eight months into a three-year contract.
The serial winning mentor has had a decent start with the Chilli Boys, although he admitted that he is still assembling his squad.
Morris, the Siya crew has been told, is a potential target before the window closes, although indications are that due to time constraints it’s unlikely that the move will be concluded before 12am deadline.
The tight final hours of the window also make it near impossible for the coach to have a conversation with the player and give him some assurances, something that might only happen in January – if Hunt revisits the signing then.
Chippa have already confirmed several new arrivals at the club, including Phakamani Mahlambi from Mamelodi Sundowns.
