Azerbaijani-outfit, Qarabag FK’s attempts at securing the signature of one of Mamelodi Sundowns’ star players, has been unsuccessful, according to Siya sources.
The European outfit, which was the home to Bafana Bafana international, Dino Ndlovu for almost two seasons, has been looking to secure another talent from the Premier Soccer League.
As reported previously by the Siya crew, Qarabag were keen on securing Khama Billiat’s signature on a pre-contract, seeing him move away from Sundowns on a free at the end of the season.
However, according to sources in the know, the proposed deal to take Billiat to Azerbaijan is believed to have fallen through, with sources adding that the player’s camp is assessing other options.
Billiat’s contract with Masandawana will come to an end on June 30, this year, with there being no official update or confirmation on whether Sundowns have managed to secure the playmaker’s services beyond the current campaign.
Despite suffering from injuries this season, Billiat has played an influential role in how Masandawana have threatened their opposition in the PSL, with the Zimbabwean netting in seven goals and putting in five assists so far this season.
Although Mosimane has revealed in the past that Masandawana are preparing for life without Billiat, it is clear that the Brazilians look far more threatening with the 27-year-old in their side, indicating that there will be big shoes to fill should the player leave the club at the end of the season.
With there still no official confirmation about where Billiat will be headed next season, indications are that the Zimbabwean has maintained his focus on helping Sundowns end the campaign on a high note, as the club is still in with a shot at challenging for two trophies.
Should Masandawana go all the way to be crowned Absa Premiership champions, Billiat’s value will continue to rise, which could see a possible bidding war for his signature come June 30 this year.
