Exclusive: New Swallows Coach Speaks!

The new Swallows FC coach has broken his silence after agreeing terms, in principle, with the club.

As previously reported by the Siya crew earlier on Tuesday, the Dube Birds had finally identified Dylan Kerr as a potential replacement for Brandon Truter and moved quickly to open formal talks!

It's since been confirmed that he will take over, and Soccer Laduma got to speak to him not long after he'd arrived in Joburg to present his plans to the Swallows hierachy.

"It's a sleeping giant and it is ready to be awakened. This club were top of the pile in the 80s and can get back there again. I look foward to working with the players as we have got some tough fixtures ahead of us," Kerr told the Siya crew.

The former Black Leopards coach was unattached, having turned down the offer from Marumo Gallants at the start of the season simply because what was tabled wasn’t good enough, especially after he guided the side to the Nedbank Cup trophy in May.

It would appear he had been biding his time waiting for the right job to come along and it could be that Swallows are the perfect fit.

Truter is one of 12 coaching changes so far this season!

The Dube Birds sacked Truter on Sunday night following a long string of poor results, which were worsened by the 3-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in their DStv Premiership clash in Soweto a few hours earlier on the day.

Swallows had tried to prolong firing Truter, even pointing the finger at the non-performance of some of the players at the club.

But the loss to Amakhosi was the final straw and the chairman David Mogashoa released a strongly worded, but brief, message to explain why Truter and three of his technical staff members were also given the boot.

Wedson Nyirenda’s name has also been mentioned in the media that the Zambian, who previously coached Baroka FC and won the Telkom Knockout three years ago was also in the picture as he looks to return to SA.

But it's Kerr who was appointed coach, with his Siyavuma Sports Group agency also confirming the deal.

"Really pleasing for Dylan he is joining an historical club, rich in history, initially all focus is getting the club up the table and getting them back to where they belong," a spokesperson from the agency said.
