Midfielder Facing Same Sundowns Challenge?

SuperSport United midfielder Lucky Mohomi has an anxious wait to hear if the club will be keeping him beyond the expiration of his contract.

Mohomi signed a one-year deal when he joined Matsatsantsa from Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of this campaign, with an option to extend for a further season.

News reaching the Siya crew is that the club is unlikely to take the option in the player's contract, with younger midfielders in the team such as Jamie Webber and Jessie Donn playing a bigger role in the team in recent times.

Mohomi had a difficult spell at Sundowns and a move to SuperSport was meant to help him revive his career, after the early promise he showed during his time with Free State Stars.

The midfielder has made 13 appearances in all competitions for SuperSport this campaign, which is more than the matches he played combined for Sundowns in 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20.

The Siya crew reported earlier this season that the club was interested in exercising the option, as the player made progress from the time he was given his debut. Following the difficult few months of being starved of appearances, things seem to have now changed.

While his future remains uncertain at the moment, Mohomi will no doubt be pleased that he was able to get more game time after the difficult few seasons he had with Masandawana.

The one concern he would have, however, is that he has not played a league match since the beginning of March, when he came on as a substitute in a goalless draw with TS Galaxy.

SuperSport have two DStv Premiership matches left this season and Mohomi will be hoping to get an opportunity to play.
