SuperSport United have acted quickly to avoid losing the services of one of their strikers on a free amidst interest from elsewhere in the Premier Soccer League.
The Siya crew reported in recent times that Maritzburg United are keen on securing the services of Fagrie Lakay, prior to and after his loan move to Ajax Cape Town.
The 21-year-old will see his loan stint with the Urban Warriors come to an end on June 30, where he will return to Matsatsantsa to await a decision to be made on his immediate future.
However, SuperSport have already exercised the added one-year option on Lakay’s deal, extending his stay until, at least, the end of the 2018/19 season.
Although, as things stand, it is still uncertain whether the player will remain with Matsatsantsa in the new season, however, much will depend on the new coach being appointed at the helm of the team in the coming day.
Ajax have previously expressed their desire to secure the player’s services on a permanent basis, however, with the club set to campaign in the National First Division next season, it is unlikely that he will stay on their books for any longer.
With Lakay still having one more year left on his deal, an interested suitor will have to approach SuperSport with an offer for the player’s services in the upcoming July/August transfer window.
