SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has confirmed the club is closing in on signing a midfielder who was previously on the books of their Tshwane rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Siya crew reported last week that Lucky Mohomi was training with coach Kaitano Tembo’s team in the hopes of landing a new deal.
Mohomi, 29, joined Sundowns from Free State Stars four years ago hoping to make an immediate impact for his boyhood club.
But in that period he only made 32 appearances and efforts to get him to go on loan had often collapsed in the final days of the transfer window.
“Lucky has been training with us for a while now and we should be able to conclude a deal by the end of the week,” Matthews told the Siya crew.
He suggested that the attacker could be the last of their recruits before the start of the season following the arrival of goalkeeper George Chigova (Polokwane City), defenders Mpho Mathebula and Keanan Phillips (both Bidvest Wits) as well as striker Iqraam Rayners (Stellenbosch FC).
Mohomi will bolster the Matsatsantsa midfield as Tembo looks to find a new kingpin in that department after captain Dean Furman’s departure.
