Downs Opted Against Mhlongo From Bucs?
Sundowns Was Reportedly Offered A Goalkeeper From Pirates
Mamelodi Sundowns was reportedly offered Brighton Mhlongo from Orlando Pirates but opted against signing him, according to Siya sources in the know.
Mhlongo, who is one of the top goalkeepers in Mzansi, has since been signed by Chippa United on a three-year deal, as confirmed by the Port Elizabeth club.
According to sources, Sundowns were alerted on the availability of the goalkeeper, before he left Pirates for Chippa.
However, the Chloorkop outfit felt that they had enough cover in the goalkeeping department. Following the departure of Wayne Sandilands from Downs, who signed a three-year deal with Bucs, Pitso Mosimane’s side has not seen the need to add another goalkeeper to the squad just yet.
“Brighton Mhlongo was offered to Mamelodi Sundowns. His name was discussed with the club,” said the source.
Having also been linked with Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori, Downs decided against signing him, which allowed Maritzburg United to conclude a deal with the 23-year-old.
