Baxter & Bafana To Split?

Stuart Baxter’s time with Bafana Bafana could well be coming to an end in the not-so-distant future, with a reported breakdown in the relationship between the coach and the association.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, Baxter and the South African Football Association appear to be on rocky ground at present, and there have been suggestions that things could come to a head in the coming weeks.
It is believed that certain promises have been broken that were discussed prior to Baxter’s arrival in his current post, while decisions surrounding technical team appointments that have dragged on, financial issues, and reported breaches of trust could possibly have made the situation untenable.

While failure to qualify for the World Cup was upsetting for the nation and led to calls for Baxter’s head, the association came out in support of the man leading the team, though instances in the background could potentially tell a different story.
Speaking in this week’s Soccer Laduma, Baxter said, “Look, I’m not going to discuss my future with Bafana Bafana, because I’m still the head coach and the job is difficult enough as it is without more smoke and mirrors involved. As things are now, I’m doing my best in extremely difficult circumstances to prepare the South African national team for every challenge that we have put in front of us.”
Soccer Laduma contacted SAFA for comment on the situation, however, no response was received from the Association.
