While the spotlight is currently shining on AmaZulu for their impressive performances and good results, a squad overhaul is expected at the Durban-based club at the end of the season.
After accumulating a whopping 37 points from 11 wins and four draws from their last 15 matches, Usuthu have become serious contenders in the DStv Premiership title race, with the Benni McCarthy-coached side having closed the gap with Mamelodi Sundowns to only one point.
While the excitement in the camp of the KwaZulu-Natal giants is there for everyone to see, some players will be concerned about their futures, now that the team is left with only five matches in the 2020/21 season.
Siphiwe Tshabalala, who was seen as a marquee signing when he joined Usuthu in October, could be one of the stars to exit the club along with his former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana teammate Tsepo Masilela, according to sources, after struggling for regular game-time.
The likes of Andre De Jong, Samuel Darpoh and Talent Chawapiwa are linked with exits after failing to command a regular place in McCarthy’s line-ups, while the likes of Sibusiso Mabiliso, Siyabonga Mbatha and Bonginkosi Ntuli are believed to be keen on leaving for greener pastures after attracting interest from Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, respectively.
Meanwhile, Phakamani Mahlambi will return to Sundowns at the end of his loan deal and has also experienced limited game-time at Usuthu.
On the other hand, former Pirates and SuperSport United winger Thabo Qalinge is likely to be signed on a long-term deal at the expiry of his short-term one after proving himself in a short period of time.
Zukile Kewuti could be signed on a permanent deal from Cape Town City if all goes according to plan in the negotiations between the parties.
Roland Putsche has also been linked with the KZN club along with Shaquille Abrahams, who are among other player movements expected to take place.
