6 Players Who Could Play For Chiefs Next Season
Soccer Laduma Takes A Look At Six Players Who Could Be Playing For Kaizer Chiefs Next Season
With Kaizer Chiefs set to appoint a new man at the helm of the team, Soccer Laduma takes a look at seven out-of-favour players who could return to the fold next season.
Head Coach Steve Komphela stepped down from his role on Saturday, following Chiefs’ 2-0 loss to Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup competition.
The likes of Brilliant Khuzwayo and Keagan Buchanan have seen very little game-time under Komphela’s mentorship at the club, although these players could see a change of their fate in the new season.
1. Khuzwayo To Remain At Chiefs?
Khuzwayo has been heavily linked with an exit from Amakhosi of late, with his contract at the club set to come to an end on June 30 this year. However, the club or player is yet to confirm the goalkeeper’s expected departure, although, with Khuzwayo eager for regular game-time, the new coach in charge at the helm next season may want to hold on to the player’s services in the new season, giving him more game-time.
2. Sibusiso Khumalo
Khumalo has not played a single domestic game for Chiefs this season after falling out of favour at the club following the arrival of the likes of Philani Zulu. Khumalo has been linked with an exit from Chiefs, however, his lack of game-time could change his fortune under a new coach.
3. William Twala
Twala is currently on loan at Maritzburg United and he is set to return to Amakhosi at the end of the season. The player fell out of favour under the mentorship of Steve Komphela, although a new coach may want to utilise his services next season.
4. Lorenzo Gordinho to make an early return from his loan?
Gordinho is currently on loan at Bloemfontein Celtic until January next year, however, there could be a possibility that the player may return to Chiefs as early as the July/August transfer window, at the possible request of a new coach. The centre back has previously been first-choice in the position under Komphela, although recently fell down the pecking order and subsequently saw the club send him out on loan to salvage the needed game-time.
5. Buchanan to return to the fold?
Keagan Buchanan is in his second season at Amakhosi and is yet to find his feet at Naturena, with the midfielder having completely fallen off the radar at Chiefs, as his last appearance dates as far back as last year, September. The 26-year-old has been linked with an exit from Chiefs, although with a new coach in charge, he could return to the squad in the new season.
6. Jayiya to be utilised more?
Since joining up with Chiefs, Bhongolethu Jayiya has made just 14 appearances for Amakhosi all season, becoming one of the most unused substitutes during matches. Again, with a new coach, things may look up for the player next season.
It is understood that Chiefs will undergo an overhaul at the club in the off-season, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for these players.
