Five Players Who Could Retire At Sundowns, If…

With several players having their contracts extended during the course of the season, Soccer Laduma takes a look at five players who could retire at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Denis Onyango:

Africa’s number one goalkeeper, Denis Onyango recently signed a new four and a half year deal with Sundowns, which means that the Ugandan international could likely be retiring at the Chloorkop-based club.

Although goalkeepers are known to get better with age, Onyango is currently 33-years-old, which means that he could be 37 years of age by the time his stay with Masandawana comes to an end, and he could potentially look to hang up his boots?

Wayne Arendse:

The 34-year-old’s contract will come to an end in June 2020, however, it is believed that the club have an added one-year option set in place.

Arendse will turn 35-years-old in November this year and with the centre-back being a key player in Head Coach Pitso Mosimane’s squad, indications are that he could likely hang up his boots at the Chloorkop-based club in the next two years, should he not look to continue his career elsewhere.

Anthony Laffor:

It is believed that Laffor signed a two to three-year extension at Sundowns, which could see the player remain at the club until after his 36th birthday, where he could look to possibly also hang up his boots.

Ricardo Nascimento:

Nascimento put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with Sundowns last year, September.

The Brazilian centre-back’s initial deal was set to come to an end on June 30, this year, however, an extension of three more years will see Nascimento remain with the club until, at least, the year he turns 35.

Should Nascimento not go anywhere else, the centre-back could retire with the Brazilians.

Hlompho Kekana:

Kekana put pen to paper on a new deal in 2017, although it was not made public as to how many years the Sundowns captain still has. However, Kekana is influential in the Masandawana side and it is unlikely that the club will want to lose the 33-year-old’s services any time soon.

Should he not join another club in the coming years, Kekana could retire at the Chloorkop-based club.
