Mpontshane Name On Bucs Transfer List?
Siyabonga Mpontshane To Make Bucs Exit In January?
The Siya Crew has been reliably informed that Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane could be among the players set to exit the club in January.
The 31-year-old former Platinum Stars shot-stopper has struggled to make a tallying contribution since joining the Buccaneers in the 2014/15 season. Since his arrival at the Parktown-based club, Mpontshane has not made it double figures in terms of league appearances with the most league starts amounting to six in the 2015/16 season.
Mpontshane’s lack of game-time for the Soweto Giants has also seen him lose his place in the Bafana Bafana squad where he is now seen as the third choice keeper behind Wayne Sandilands and Jackson Mabokgwane.
Though the KwaZulu Natal-born player was heavily linked with an exit from the club only a season after signing from them following the arrival of Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Felipe Ovono, Mpontshane opted to remain with the club and continue fighting for his position in the Bucs goalkeeping department.
However, sources close to the player have indicated his move to get more game-time elsewhere.
“Siya has given it his all at Pirates and has used every opportunity to play. Pirates is a big team and if you are the third choice keeper it’s unlikely you will play often especially if the goalkeepers ahead of you are both Bafana keepers,” said the source.
Mpontshane is yet to feature in a league encounter for the Buccaneers in this current campaign.
