Does Shabba Deserve A New Chiefs Deal?
Should Kaizer Chiefs Give Siphiwe Tshabalala A New Contract?
Siphiwe Tshabalala is coming to the end of his current contract with Kaizer Chiefs, and it appears that the club wants to offer him a new deal rather than just exercise their option on him.
‘Shabba’ – who will play in his 31st Soweto Derby this weekend – has featured in at least 22 Absa Premiership games in all of the last seven seasons for the Glamour Boys, and at 33 is still among their top scorers in 2017/18.
The veteran midfield man has directly contributed to more goals this season (10 – four goals, six assists) than any other Amakhosi player across all competitions, and only four players in the whole squad have managed to play more minutes.
In this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, the Siya crew spoke to Jazzman Mahlakgane to get an update on Tshabalala’s current contractual situation amid talk of a renewal.
He told the crew, “They’re the ones that gave me a call to talk about Shabba and asked when we could meet. The player has been there for over 11 years now, and I think that it’s humbling and noble for the club to want to extend his stay.
“There isn’t any real news to report at this point – only that we’ve scheduled to meet to discuss the situation next month. They do intend to extend his deal, and we appreciate that. He’s still playing a pivotal role there and we’re happy about that.”
Do you think that ‘Shabba’ is deserving of a new contract at Naturena?
