After just six months at Bidvest Wits and being able to cement his place in the starting line-up, the Siya crew has been informed that Zitha Macheke has been transfer-listed by the Clever Boys in what comes as a shock move!
The rightback joined Wits as a free agent from Chippa United in July last year and adapted quickly to life in Johannesburg, and his 20 games in all competitions under coach Gavin Hunt is evidence of his contribution so far this season.
However, in a move that would have caught the player himself by surprise, Siya sources have indicated that the club has taken a decision to offload Macheke with just a few days before the January transfer window slams shut on Friday.
The 26-year-old joined Wits on a season long deal, which would have expired in June, though the Siya crew understands there was an option to extend the agreement for two more years.
It’s clear now that he has been deemed surplus to requirements and is believed to already be looking for a new home after Wits delivered the heavy blow of his imminent release.
The Clever Boys have already brought in Eva Nga, Kgaogelo Sekgota and Lorenzo Gordinho to boost their squad for the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.
