Staying? Going? Update On Pirates’ Mokwena

Rulani Mokwena's Future At Orlando Pirates Has Been Brought Into Question

By Soccer Laduma - May 21, 2018 03:27 PM

Orlando Pirates’ Rulani Mokwena has been linked with numerous clubs in recent days as rumours swirl regarding his future with the Buccaneers.

The young coach has been given many plaudits over the course of the season as an assistant to Milutin Sredojevic, and recent reports have linked him with both Polokwane City and SuperSport United as they continue their search for a head coach.

According to Siya sources, a total of three clubs have enquired about the former Sundowns coach’s availability – although they have not been named to the Siya crew – it has been suggested that he has no intention of leaving his project with Bucs at this point in time.

It is understandable that teams will be interested in signing Mokwena as a head coach given his stellar work as an assistant in recent years, although Siya sources have explained that – for now at least – he has no plans to jump ship in favour of taking the lead of a team himself.

The likes of Polokwane, SuperSport, Kaizer Chiefs and Baroka are all on the lookout for a new coach ahead of the 2018/19 season kick-off.

It would be very immature for Mokoena to depart from Pirates now for the following reasons: 1. Pirates and Sundowns are two teams that really boast a lot of talented players, so can he take all the credit for other people's talent??? 2. Is there a bigger platform for him to showcase his talent? In as far as the PSL is concerned, Pirates, Chiefs and Sundowns are as good as it gets. 3. It seems like only Pirates and Sundowns are willing to commit resources to compete in Africa, again this is the biggest competition on the African continent. 4. Facilities and resources will not be as good as they are should he decide to leave the top three. Other teams he will always be expected to work with players that are not fully developed and there is no guarantee that he will be able to secure the signature of the talent he wants given as the budget is always smaller

As for now, all those teams interested in his service can expect nothing rather than good hiding from the Buccaneers honed by this skillful assistant mentor. He's going nowhere.

@Myaka weliPhefeni : There is absolutely no point for Rhulani to prove because he is doing well and he is happy as Pirates assistant at the moment. However if an opportunity like this presents itself to him,He must definately jump for it and see how he fares as head coach.
