Reports linking Orlando Pirates with a Nigerian striker who was recently in search of a club in South Africa have been refuted.
As reported by the Siya crew, Nigerian striker Oke Akpoveta who had a trial with Chippa United earlier this month has since left Mzansi to search for his next deal overseas.
The 27-year-old could be set to join Sabail FK in Azerbadzjan in his next deal, according to FotbollDirekt.se.
Recent local reports indicated that Pirates showed interest in the forward, while also suggesting that the Soweto giants were keen on having a look at him.
However, a source close to the player has refuted the reports linking him to the Buccaneers.
“I am also aware of the reports and I can tell you now that there is no truth in what has been reported about Pirates. The player came here only for Chippa United and he didn’t even stay long with the club as he received an offer from overseas shortly after his arrival in the Eastern Cape. I’m saying this as someone who was involved in bringing the player here in the first place,” said the source.
