Reported Komphela Replacement Set For International Role?
His name is one of those linked with Kaizer Chiefs as a potential replacement for Steve Komphela, but it appears the former Orlando Pirates coach could be heading elsewhere.
Ruud Krol, formerly of the Buccaneers, was linked with the job at Naturena by the media prior to Komphela’s appointment and is once again one of the names on the list, now that the current coach’s contract will be expiring at the end of the season.
However, according to reports coming out of Kenya, the Dutchman is currently the hot favourite to take over the position as head coach of the Harambee Stars.
If those reports are to be believed, the 69-year-old will take over from Belgian, Paul Put, who left in February after just a couple of months in charge, leaving Stanley Okumbi as the national team’s interim coach for the friendlies with Comoros and Central African Republic.
Should Krol be appointed, he will join the Kenyan national team with plenty of experience in Africa after he was in charge of numerous African clubs and nations over the past decade.
Luc Eymael remains the heavy favourite to take over from Komphela if the club decides to part ways with him at Naturena, and if Krol is out of the race then it can only reinforce the Belgian’s chances.
