The Premier Soccer League has officially moved three fixtures by a day in next month’s calendar to accommodate a Bafana Bafana training camp.
Games between SuperSport United v Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City v Polokwane City have been pushed back following a request by national team coach Stuart Baxter. Bloemfontein Celtic will also now host Bidvest Wits on Friday night instead of the initial Sunday afternoon.
Baxter wants more time with the locally based players ahead of Bafana’s do-or-die Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Libya later in March. They must at least manage a draw to qualify for the continental tournament in Egypt in June.
As reported by the Siya crew, the league had agreed in principle a few weeks ago to reschedule these fixtures.
This has now been confirmed, with the updated list showing that SuperSport will host Chiefs in Nelspruit on Friday night instead of Saturday, while City’s home clash against Polokwane City has also been moved to a day earlier.
Wits were to travel to Mangaung on Sunday afternoon, but will now make the trip to the Dr Molemela Stadium two days earlier.
Baxter is expected to name his squad some in the coming weeks as he prepares for an encounter he has said will determine his future as Bafana coach.
