It could only be a matter of time before yet another top signing for Orlando Pirates is announced, with Fortune Makaringe believed to be closing in on a move to the club.
As reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, issue 1110, the Buccaneers are expected to pay R4 million and include a player in exchange for Makaringe. Sources in the know have revealed that Bucs are expected to complete a deal worth in the region of R7 million, which also includes Thabiso Kutumela, for Makaringe to join them for the start of next season.
With Kutumela already playing and scoring goals for Maritzburg, after he was signed by the KwaZulu-Natal club in January, Siya sources have revealed that the former NFD top goalscorer was used as a sweetener to secure Makaringe’s signature in preparation for next season.
As confirmed by the Team of Choice, Kutumela put pen to paper on a three-year deal with them, though indications are that his move is part of Makaringe moving in the opposite direction.
According to Siya sources, Kutumela has been valued at R3 million, and a cash fee of R4 million is expected to change hands once the move for Makaringe is finalised.
Fadlu Davids, who is one of coach Milutin Sredojevic’s assistants at Bucs, will be happy to welcome Makaringe to Orlando if all goes according to plan, as the player shot to prominence under his tutelage at the Pietermaritzburg outfit during the 2017/18 season.
According to Siya sources, Makaringe’s transfer from Maritzburg to Bucs is as good as done, with the details of the move now being ironed out.
Former Maritzburg midfielder, Junior Khanye, has told the Siya crew that Makaringe is a player with qualities to fit in Sredojevic’s team at Bucs.
“That one (Makaringe) is my boy, I played with him in the township (in Daveyton) with local clubs, before he turned professional. He is a brilliant player and a top professional. That boy is good both as a midfielder and in an attacking role,” said Khanye.
“Pirates have a lot of ball-playing players in their team and I think their style would suit the boy (Makaringe). Right now, Pirates are the best team in the PSL when it comes to playing good and entertaining football in my opinion. Makaringe would complement Xola (Mlambo) very well in Pirates midfield and that would boost the team’s chances of scoring more goals because they are both creative,” said Khanye.
