Platinum Stars are exercising their option on Mbongeni Mzimela’s contract and the club is also keen to enter into a new deal with the goalkeeper.
Having joined Dikwena in 2015, following his arrival at the club from Chippa United, Mzimela has done well as the number one goalkeeper for the North West outfit. During the 2016/17 season from which Mzimela made 25 league starts, the 32-year-old kept 11 clean sheets as Stars narrowly missed out on finishing in the top eight of the PSL log.
The club is happy with the Ngwelezane-born player’s contribution to the team and wants him to stay on for a longer period.
“The club is exercising the option on Mzimela’s contract. On top of that, the club wants to extend the player’s contract by a few more years. It’s likely to be two more years,” a source told the Siya crew.
Apart from his goalkeeping duties, Mzimela has also been helpful in taking and converting the spot-kicks for Stars.
