Maritzburg United have made a decision on the future of midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase, who was set to see his contract with the club come to an end in June 2022.
After a somewhat nomadic last few years, Ntshangase appears to have found a home in Pietermaritzburg where he joined the Team of Choice on a two-year contract in 2020.
The former Bidvest Wits utility player formed a key part of Maritzburg’s 2020/21 season, making 12 appearances in all competitions.
Upon the arrival of coach Ernst Middendorp, Ntshangase was promoted to the club’s captain, taking over the reins from Thabiso Kutumela.
Having continued his fine form for the club this season, the Siya crew have been informed that Maritzburg has taken up the option on the player’s contract, which would see him remain at the club for the foreseeable future.
“He is an asset to the club, so it only makes sense that they would hold onto him,” a Siya source informed the crew.
Ntshangase has made 12 appearances for Middendorp’s side this campaign.
