PSL Veteran’s Retirement Talk Slammed!

Quality Talent Sports, the agency that represents veteran winger Thuso Phala, has slammed talk that the 33-year-old will be hanging up his boots following his amicable parting of ways with Black Leopards earlier this week.

Lidoda Duvha opted against extending Phala’s stay at the club and it was subsequently confirmed that he would not return to the team when the nationwide lockdown – enforced by the Coronavirus pandemic – ends.

It has been reported in the local media on Saturday morning that Phala would be retiring, with quotes attributed to his mother, Suzan Phala.

“Thuso and I have been dealing with this matter for a number of days over the past week and Thuso had not spoken to his mother about this until the dawn of many publications reporting this story,” wrote Basia Michaels, who is the player’s agent.

“The comments of a protective mother, who may not have been aware of the necessary decision and the intricate details thereof, should not be taken to heart. Mum Suzan’s comment comes without the knowledge of the decision that we made. The fact remains that Thuso played over 50 % of the matches that Leopards participated in and they have never stated that Thuso was injured a reason for him not being featured in a match.”

Phala himself has told the Siya crew that he felt he still had “a lot to offer” because of his experience and would not be picky over where he plays his football next season.

“I still feel I have a lot to offer with my experience. It’s all about waiting for this virus to die down and we can talk about a way forward with my manager,” he told the Siya crew.

QT Sport have now officially also made clear their intentions to find him a new club for the following campaign, whenever football resumes again.

With all else that has been said above, we need to place it on the record that Thuso will not be retiring from football. We will embark on finding him a team for the upcoming 2020/2021 season,” read the statement.
