Phala Reveals Biggest Factor In Leopards Departure

Thuso Phala says he believes his lack of game-time was the biggest contributing factor to news this week that he will be leaving Black Leopards.

Following his move to Lidoda Duvha at the start of the 2019/20 season, the veteran winger had hoped to revive his career after leaving SuperSport United a free agent, having spent six years there and winning multiple trophies.

But it hasn’t turned out that way…

“I didn’t get the game-time I thought I would get,” Phala told the Siya crew.

“I didn’t contribute as much as I thought I would. But in saying that, that’s football. You go to a team and things click and you do well, but sometimes you go and things don’t work out as you had planned. So it is one of those things.”

Phala’s contract would have ran out on June 30, but a mutual decision was taken that both parties agree to go their separate ways immediately – it means should football resume post the nationwide lockdown he won’t be returning to the club.

“I wish I was able to go back and say a proper goodbye to everyone, but sadly because of this virus that’s not possible. I really should thank the chairman (David Thidiela) for giving me another chance and I have actually spoken to him to say that I enjoyed my time there at the club and want to wish them well with fighting relegation,” added Phala.

Leopards were bottom of the Absa Premiership table with six matches to go before the league was halted by the Coronavirus pandemic.
